Sometimes I hate myself.

Sometimes an idea pops into my head, and I think, ďHeh. That would be funny.Ē I donít think about the amount of work it would require to draw or any of the logistics in executing the strip. I only think about that stuff AFTER Iíve started and the suffering has begun.

So this is one of those times I bit off more than I could chew. The joke is a soft parody on a memorable scene from Empire Strikes Back. (I really have to stop the Star Wars references.) The concept just struck me as screamingly funny, and I had to do it. I cracked open my Empire Strikes Back storybook (publication date 1980) and got studying. I even included 2-1B, the medical droid from Hoth. Now THATíS nerdy!

I really had to work at that reaction pic of Daphne in the last panel. Itís really hard to draw a picture that suggests someone is going to momentarily spit out whatís in her mouth but hasnít quite gotten around to it. I think I succeeded.

Kevin might recognize the girls in the medical booth. Iím not sure when Eile and Sunny became nurses, but these things happen.

That's not more disgusting than that time when I've found a cockroach inside of the coffee maker!

Oh, I can beat that. At the school where I teach, they had a hot chocolate maker that started to pour slowly. They kept it in operation for a while, but eventually they opened it up and found the source of the blockage: a dead mouse was jammed in the spout. That meant that people had been drinking hot chocolate that had been carefully filtered through a rotten mouse carcass. Now THAT'S good drinking!

Yeah, I don't really think this is the most fetching bikini, though. It was vaguely modeled on the ridiculous diaper-type garment Luke was wearing in the bacta tank. Shudder.

This one was fun. Star Wars is as Star Wars does. And I am glad that last panel worked.

I dunno. He's been tinkering with them for so long, I'm kind of past caring. I still have the originals on VHS. Those are the ones I show to my kid. I wouldn't even care, really, if all the tinkering looked good, but it's like they're adding sad, bargain-basement video game quality CGI to the movies. Why? Leave it be. I'm all for fixing obvious mistakes, like in the original where the light sabres would frequently flicker out and become cheesy lighted sticks at certain angles, but don't alter content.

I sort of forgave that one because of the fact that it was structured on old footage that Lucas filmed but didn't know what to do with. I mean, that makes sense. Do with it what you will. To my mind, that's added value. (And the re-rendered version doesn't look TOO bad.) But when they TAKE OUT scenes that we all grew up watching to stick in their awful CG stuff (like in the Jedi Jabba scenes) I give up.

Thanks! Second panel was the result of a bit too much work for one panel's worth, but I guess I need to have that sort of experience every now and then.

Or, alternatively, set it as the new standard. (Oh! That's right. You have no desire or intention of approaching this as a profession. Never mind. Like, don't think of the word "elephant," the suggestion's been made and now it will do its work silently in the back of your mind. Hehe.)

Well, I would consider most body secretions to be on the salty-savory end of the spectrum, wouldn't you? Sweat contains a high amount of sodium, and she certainly ain't sweet. I don't know. I tossed around a lot of flavor adjectives, as a matter of fact, although some just came across as weird.

I try not to think about the inherent flavor of girl-type people. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad some have different feelings on the matter, but eeeew girls. We have cooties, I hear. XP

...Thank you for not going with "fishy".

I have to go take ten baths now I think.

And guys are any better? At least most girls practice basic hygiene. I am willing to bet that in a random taste test, coffee that's been man-steeped would taste WAY nastier than girl-steeped coffee. Guys are vile. Trust me: I have to go into men's washrooms every day of my life, and it makes me ashamed of my sex.

Well, who knows? Maybe some places are putting their coffee to evil uses before reselling. More likely is the possibility that they're just making REALLY bad coffee.

I love this one! When I was little, that part of star wars would scare me! My sister had an action figurine of Han inside the cell thing that you filled with water...which I then drank...little kids can be a leedle oblivious to germs! Blech XP

Lolz!!! XD !!!! Yes, I was an extremely...unsanitary child. Poor tauntauns! I love the old movies, but the new ones are SO BAD. All my friends love them because they have Haydenson Christensen. The dialogue is ridiculous! Anakin: "My heart is beating faster and faster!" I can't stop laughing when he says that! It's like Stephanie Meyer wrote it for George Lucas!!! It's BLASPHEMY!

Yeah, the new ones aren't the greatest. Well, the acting isn't the greatest, but the movies themselves aren't that bad. I've warmed to the newer Star Wars stuff over time. And Clone Wars (the tv show) is actually REALLY GOOD. The fact that there are no real actors means that you don't get real bad acting!

Yeah, I watched that for a while! It was pretty good! I think the newer movies had potential, but the execution just wasn't...desirable XD. I like the second one alright, which is ironically the cheesiest! But if i had to pick the best of the newer ones, the first in the trilogy definitely wins!

You know, I actually liked the second one the best too, though few agree with me. It had a sense of fun, and was perhaps the most in keeping with the Flash Gordon serials that really inspired George Lucas in the first place. It was adventurous and fun. The Phantom Menace has really grown on me, now that I've had a decade to lessen the pain and anger of seeing it in the theater and hating it intensely. It's really not bad. I look forward to obtaining those movies on DVD and sharing them with my son now.

Star wars jokes maybe cliche but I think it's more cliche for a comic not to do them.
People drink coffee that's passed through a cat. I suppose coffee a cute girls bathed in isn't too much of stretch.

You know, I find it funny that a lot of (young) people DON'T immediately get the Star Wars reference. I mean, when I think about it, the ref IS thirty years old. I'm dating myself without knowing it.

And I think you've hit upon a marketing concept for coffee! Reminds me of a practice in ancient Rome where girls would buy the sweat and bathing oil that had been scraped from the hard, manly bodies of their favourite gladiators. Might work for coffee...
