EDIT: Okay, after posting this sucker, I kept looking at various elements that sucked in the image, and I knew I could improve upon a few. So the REALLY garbage tree has been replaced by a tree that almost actually vaguely resembles the growth pattern of a real birch tree. Some more drop shadows have been added, and the central figure has been moved a little over to give the other focal point (the window) a bit more breathing room.
This pic took WAY too much time to draw.
This is the next image in my heavily illustrated YA novel. Sylvia (the mother) is going off to her job as a waitress, leaving the kids at home. Home, by the way, is an apartment inside that giant manor house. (In other words, they don't own the whole building.)
The house is modeled on a real structure in my hometown. It's an old, beautiful building with some really unique features. And yes, the real building is actually divided into a bunch of apartments.
This entire image, by the way, is vector. I hate doing backgrounds in vector. (Mind you, I hate doing backgrounds period.) Hopefully this one cuts the mustard.
I hardly have ANY techniques to pass on. I stumble through working with an art program that no one else does, so I'm pretty lacking in teachable skills.
The only way I can draw structures like that is based off on real structures. I totally suck at drawing buildings and cenários like that. Your background turned out perfect! Also, this whole drawing feels like a masterpiece. This is awesome!
Thanks! I also need to base my architectural drawings off REAL buildings; my fake ones just look too plain and unbelievable. So this one is based on a real mansion in my city. I sort of trespassed on the property and took a whole bunch of photos. It was fun.
