Thanks! I really don't know what the heck the point of this ID was. Sometimes I'm confused by my own stuff.

Actually, I think it's the amps, but the geckos can be a problem too!

Thanks! It's a vector piece from a photo ref, though it doesn't really resemble the original much.

Haha, you're welcome. If anyone else asks, you made it all by yourself, with no ref, because you are a bad-ass. ;P

Yeah, I almost never use refs. Because I'm bad-ass. And because I'm LAZY.

I'm working on a comic book at the moment (to be self-published early June), and I've been using ref for EVERYTHING. It's annoying, lol.

Whoa. Where do you find your refs? I've noticed some neat stock on dA for that purpose, but (like everything on this site) it's hard to search through for what you want.

I'm just not a ref guy. I'm a 'draw it and maybe it works, maybe it sucks' guy.

I Google it up for purposes such as "What kind of nose do I want this person to have" or "what's some cool graffiti I can put on this decrepit building" or "crap, I don't know how to draw a car." lol

A smart idea. I do resort to Google for most types of machinery. Ah, Google. In the days before the internet, you have no idea how painful visual research was. I was once given the task of making an animated walk cycle of an aardvark. Try finding THAT without the aid of Google. Oi.

...it's the amps!
Nice Gecko, how'd you do the lightning?

The lightning was a single vector line drawn with a mouse(!) using a real lightning photo as a ref. Then I did an external contour with about ten layers (I don't know whether 'contour' is a feature in Illustrator, but in Draw it's used for making concentric outlines of things.) Then I make the contours semi-transparent, and I get this kick-ass glow effect. It's a technique I overuse, but it's one of my favourites! This whole pic is vector.

Yes we do, in Illustrator it's called offset.
Thats maybe another gradient option you can consider (back to this convo from last month) Can you make clipping masks? if so you could do that then put it in a clipping mask.

Yeah. That's the way to get more complicated shading techniques in Draw. You have to use contour/offset (the two freakin programs ALWAYS have different names for the same stuff), and then ';Powerclip' (another draw term) the gradient inside another object. It works, but I've always thought it's kind of labour intensive!

Hmm...I had no idea that things like that were copyrighted by Adobe. Crazy to know

The different terminology is maddening. And to be honest, the terms in CorelDraw make NO sense. Get this: weld, combine, and intersect are (to my mind) all synonyms that have wildly different functions. There's no way (looking just at the names) to tell what any of them do!
